1. How it began?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

According to archaeologists, Milan was founded by the Celtic tribe called Insubres<\/em> (or Insubri<\/em>) in 600 BC, after whom the region was called Insubria<\/em>. The Romans named the town Mediolanum<\/em>, that means Mediterranean <\/em>in Latin.<\/p>\n

The church of Santa Maria delle Grazie is made famous by the fact that it houses the original painting “The last supper” by Leonardo da Vinci. Before visiting it, most visitors don\u2019t realize that it was actually painted on the wall of what once was the monastery\u2019s dining room.<\/p>\n

3. It’s aperitivo time!<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Definitely, the best time to visit Milan is the 7 th of December, which is the \u2018National Milan\u2019s Day\u2019 called the Feast of Saint Ambrose. During this day, locals (and tourists of course) can enjoy the fair, that takes form of a street market arranged around the Saint’s Basilica, offering everything from antique stalls and buskers to the roasted chestnuts and candy floss. The Saint’s day also coincides with the opening of the season of the world famous Milan La Scala Opera.<\/p>\n
