Martijn Doolaard traded the convenience of a car and the distractions of daily life for a cross-continental cycling journey. An adventure that took him from Amsterdam to Singapore \u2013 in 335 days, through 18 countries, covering more than 17,000 kilometres.<\/p>\n

The title of this impressive book says it all: One man, one bike, one long ride, the adventure, the pleasure, and the pain. It is simultaneously a travelogue and a visual journey. \u2018But why all this by bike?\u2019 you might ask. Doolaard\u2019s simple answer: Flexibility, freedom and most importantly the ability to travel slow and therefore see more.<\/p>\n

From venturing through Eastern European fields of yellow rapeseed, exploring the forests of Transylvania, facing extreme weather conditions in Turkmenistan, to experiencing the magic of Bagan, Myanmar and the intimate hosting culture and community in Iran, the book is a vivid chronicle of what can happen when the norm is pointedly replaced by exceptional self-discovery and beautiful scenery. Doolaard shares the gear and knowledge that made his trip possible, alongside the passionate curiosities that served as his impetus. Leaving behind repetitive routines, One Year on a Bike<\/em> indulges in slow travel, the subtlety of a gradually changing landscape and the lessons learned through travelling. ABOUT<\/strong><\/p>\n

Martijn Doolaard currently lives in Amsterdam. When he\u2019s not travelling, he works as a freelance graphic designer and filmmaker. Under the pseudonym DAMP, he combines creativity and passion to create music videos and brand movies. He has also performed as a lead singer, guitarist and keyboard player in various music acts. On his Instagram <\/a>page, which is also the name of his website<\/a>, he shares impressions of his many journeys all around the world.<\/p>\n
