MEININGER:<\/strong>\u00a0Dennis, you are working as an Occupational Health and Safety Specialist at MEININGER. An important job, especially since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak. Before we speak about the pandemic, and how it affected MEININGER and your responsibilities, which general three facts should we know about your job?<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0Well,\u00a0first\u00a0I\u00a0see\u00a0myself\u00a0as\u00a0an\u00a0internal\u00a0consultant\u00a0to\u00a0our\u00a0hotels\u00a0and\u00a0staff in all matters regarding health\u00a0&\u00a0safety\u00a0in\u00a0the workplace.\u00a0<\/span>Secondly, the everyday business\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0hotel, taking\u00a0care\u00a0of our\u00a0guests and\u00a0keeping up with\u00a0health\u00a0&\u00a0safety documentation, all at\u00a0the\u00a0same time, can be\u00a0very\u00a0challenging. That\u2019s\u00a0where I\u00a0come\u00a0into\u00a0play, e.g.\u00a0by staying\u00a0in contact with our\u00a0external partners, checking on the state of\u00a0existing documentation\u00a0and\u00a0training,\u00a0<\/span>or\u00a0looking after\u00a0possible\u00a0training needs.\u00a0<\/span>Finally,\u00a0I stay\u00a0in\u00a0close contact with our\u00a0hotels\u00a0and\u00a0our Facility Management team\u00a0and do onsite inspection in\u00a0the hotels.<\/span><\/p>\n

Your Job in Times of Corona<\/h3>\n

MEININGER:<\/strong> And\u00a0how\u00a0has\u00a0COVID-19\u00a0changed\u00a0your\u00a0job?\u00a0What\u00a0is\u00a0different\u00a0now?\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0Well,\u00a0it\u00a0was\u00a0already\u00a0a\u00a0challenge\u00a0to\u00a0stay\u00a0informed\u00a0and\u00a0aware\u00a0of\u00a0all\u00a0the\u00a0different legislation\u00a0in\u00a0the nine countries\u00a0we\u00a0operate\u00a0hotels\u00a0in\u00a0before\u00a0the\u00a0pandemic.\u00a0Corona\u00a0now\u00a0added\u00a0a total new\u00a0layer\u00a0to\u00a0that. We\u00a0are\u00a0now taking\u00a0an\u00a0even\u00a0more\u00a0intensified\u00a0look\u00a0on\u00a0individual behavior, cleanliness\u00a0and hygiene.\u00a0<\/span>Luckily,\u00a0our\u00a0standards were\u00a0already\u00a0high. Nevertheless, adjustments had to be made and\u00a0because the\u00a0situation\u00a0is\u00a0in\u00a0constant\u00a0flux, on-time\u00a0adjustments\u00a0are\u00a0inevitable.\u00a0 A\u00a0close\u00a0and\u00a0good communication between\u00a0the\u00a0hotel operations\u00a0teams,\u00a0 the management and myself\u00a0are\u00a0vital to\u00a0make that\u00a0work.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>We\u00a0have\u00a0already\u00a0put\u00a0a\u00a0lot\u00a0of\u00a0effort\u00a0into\u00a0enhanced\u00a0safety\u00a0measures\u00a0for\u00a0our\u00a0guests\u00a0and\u00a0staff,\u00a0and we\u00a0already\u00a0gained\u00a0awards\u00a0for\u00a0meeting\u00a0all\u00a0the\u00a0required\u00a0standards, e.g. safety and hygiene certifications.\u00a0Constant\u00a0improvements\u00a0and\u00a0adaptions\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0ever-changing\u00a0situation\u00a0are\u00a0part\u00a0of\u00a0our\u00a0everyday work\u00a0life.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

New Health & Safety Standards <\/span><\/h3>\n

MEININGER:<\/strong> Things\u00a0we\u00a0should\u00a0know\u00a0about\u00a0the\u00a0health\u00a0and\u00a0safety\u00a0measures\u00a0at MEININGER Hotels?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Dennis:<\/strong> Some\u00a0exemplary\u00a0steps\u00a0that\u00a0we\u00a0have\u00a0taken\u00a0are:\u00a0raising\u00a0our\u00a0cleaning\u00a0intervals, handing\u00a0out\u00a0masks, gloves,\u00a0etc.\u00a0to\u00a0our\u00a0staff,\u00a0 setting\u00a0up\u00a0hand\u00a0disinfection\u00a0locations\u00a0for\u00a0guests, setting\u00a0up screens on\u00a0the\u00a0front\u00a0desk\u00a0and\u00a0applicable food\u00a0and\u00a0beverage\u00a0outlets\u00a0(e.g. the\u00a0bar), adapting our seating\u00a0capacity\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0lobby\u00a0and\u00a0breakfast\u00a0area\u00a0to the allowed extent per\u00a0local\u00a0legislation, as well\u00a0as adapting the\u00a0number of\u00a0people\u00a0which can\u00a0be\u00a0accommodated\u00a0in\u00a0our\u00a0rooms.\u00a0And\u00a0we\u00a0are\u00a0constantly\u00a0working on\u00a0being\u00a0even\u00a0more\u00a0thorough.
